JULY 10, 2024 <br /> <br />Board members present: Chairman Brett Wachsmith, Vice-Chairman Laura <br />Osiadacz. Excused - Commissioner Cory Wright. <br /> <br />Others: Mandy Buchholz, Office Administrator; Dan Young, Fire <br />Marshal. <br /> <br />SPECIAL MEETING BURN BAN COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />At 2:00 p.m. Chairman Wachsmith opened a Special Meeting to consider <br />a request from the County Fire Marshal to declare a Burn Ban. <br /> <br />Dan Young, Fire Marshal stated that with the dry conditions are in <br />the 95th percentile according to the energy release components and <br />there are concerns we won’t be able to continue containing the <br />little fires that have popped up. He stated that the County is <br />experiencing the risks of wild land fires at an elevated level. He <br />stated that he met with the Fire Chiefs earlier today and they are <br />in collective agreement to request implementation of a Countywide <br />Burn Ban effective Saturday July 13, 2024, to encompass Upper <br />Kittitas County from Elk Heights to Snoqualmie Pass to begin at 0001 <br />hours on Saturday July 13, 2024. <br /> <br />He stated that effective Tuesday July 9, 2024, the burn ban went <br />into effect for the areas of Lower Kittitas County (Elk Heights and <br />east to the Columbia River). This includes Kittitas County Fire <br />District #1 (Thorp/Elk Heights), Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue <br />(surrounding Ellensburg/Kittitas area), and Kittitas County Fire <br />District #4 (Vantage) jurisdictions. <br /> <br />The burn ban will prohibit opening burning. Opening burning, also <br />known as pile or debris burning, is defined as ignition and <br />subsequent burning of any combustible material (garbage, leaves, <br />grass, twigs, branches, litter, paper, vegetative matter, or other <br />debris) outdoors. He stated the use of propane, gas stoves, charcoal <br />briquette grills/smokers, are not prohibited under this burn ban. He <br />explained that campfires are allowed in fire rings that confine and <br />contain the campfire in a designated and approved campground. <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2024–126 OUTDOOR BURN BAN FIRE MARSHAL <br />
