THE ALS ASSOCIATION
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Ofiicers
Chair
Scott Kauffman
Vice Chair
Fred DeGrandis
May 15,2024
Kittitas County, Washinton
Board of Commissioners
Kittitas County Courthouse
205 West Sth, Suite 108
Ellensburg, WA 98926
RE: Request for Waiver of Exemption from Penal Bond-Bond of lndemnity
To Whom it May Concern
I am writing on behalf of the ALS Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to
fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through research, patient care, and public
advocacy. We are currently in the process of organizing the Ride to Defeat ALS - lron
Horse, scheduled to take place on August 3,2024. Much of the event's route will be
along the lron Horse State Park Trail.
As part of the preparations for this event, we have secured the necessary endorsements
of coverage in our Certificate of lnsurance (COl), ensuring that all requisite insurance
requirements are met. However, we seek a waiver of exemption from the Penal Bond-
Bond of lndemnity.
Given our status as a nonprofit organization, the costs associated with the Penal Bond-
Bond of lndemnity present a significant financial burden that impacts our ability to allocate
resources towards the success and safety of our event. We assure you that we have
taken comprehensive measures to mitigate any potential risks associated with our event,
as evidenced by the endorsements in our COl.
Our event aims to promote community engagement and wellness, and it is designed to
have a minimal impact on the lron Horse State Park Trail. We have planned the event
meticulously, with safety protocols and risk management strategies in place to ensure a
smooth and secure experience for all participants.
We kindly request that the requirement for the Penal Bond-Bond of lndemnity be waived
for our event, given our nonprofit status and our demonstrated commitment to adhering to
all necessary safety and insurance protocols.
Thank you for considering our requ.est. We are committed to working closely with your
office to address any concerns and ensure that all requirements are satisfactorily met.
We look fonrvard to your positive response and are available to provide any additional
information or documentation needed to support this request.
Sincerely,
| ,'-
-c( /r\t','l /..Ll)?L-'
Angie L.
