KITTITAS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STAFF REPORT FOR <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />Solid Waste <br />SPECIAL MEETING DATE: 2/21/2024 <br />TOPIC: Discussion on Jail and Courthouse facility <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Direct Staff <br />LEAD STAFF: Patti Stacey <br />RECOMMENDATION: No Action Recommended At This Time. <br />Discussion on how to move forward with Courthouse and Jail Project and needs. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: The county has done numerous predesign meetings and has <br />employed several architectural firms over the past 10 years to assist with needs <br />assessments for the Courthouse and Jail. <br />In 2021 a facility assessment was done by DUDE Solutions looking at the conditions of <br />all of the county buildings. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The needs assessment done by DUDE Solutions showed that the county needed to do $13 <br />Million in repairs by 2026. <br />Since 2021 needs assessment the State has passed the clean air standards that will also <br />require the county to do major improvement to the buildings to bring them into <br />compliance. <br />In addition, since the 2021 needs assessment other items at the Jail had come to attention <br />that need to be repaired. A new estimate was done by KNIT the count on call Architect <br />which shows that the repairs will cost Approx. $7.3 Million. <br />DISCUSSION: This meeting is to discuss how the county should proceed with the <br />Courthouse and Jail project. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: Need to determine how much it takes to finance the project moving <br />forward. <br />ATTACHMENTS: 22-173 Kittitas Jail renovations, Campus <br />Summary Kittitas County 12Mar21 <br />Legal consultation?
