SUPPLEMENT TO WSDA APPLICATION FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT GRANT FUNDS
Project Summary: New RV Park
Submitted by the Kittitas County Fair — 2023 Application Year
Kittitas County acquired an old mobile home park next to the fairgrounds several years ago as
part of the first phase of establishing a new RV Park per the Kittitas County Fairgrounds Master Plan.
Since then, the County has been working hard on the second phase that included cleaning up and
clearing the area of old mobile homes, abandoned vehicles, and lots of garbage. This was completed just
before our 2023 Fair.
We are set to begin the third and fourth phases of the master plan project, which include
completing a design and beginning to lay new utilities. Our old RV Park is outdated and has major water
and power issues. With the new RV Park design, the goal is to have a layout and utilities that can service
the size and capacity of modern-day RV, house trailers, and living quarter trailers for our events that we
hold all year long, but especially during Fair.
Not only will we be able to provide fair exhibitors and vendors with a safer, easier accessible, and
more sustainable camping experience, but we will be able to generate more revenue for the Fair and
year-round interim rentals. We currently must reject many camping applications for the Fair because our
spaces are very limited. Many year-round events also inquire about upgraded facilities and often opt for
other accommodations because we can't meet their expectations.
We are very excited to have the new property prepared to move on with the next phases, but
without grant support there will be a delay in proceeding with the project. After the investment made by
Kittitas County over the last few years on the first couple phases, the Board of County Commissioners
have directed to Fair Management that other projects across the County will be a priority for funding
unless we can secure the funding support. The Kittitas County Project Manager is requesting some
additional funding from the County in their project budget to cover what we estimate won't be covered
by this grant, but if the grant is not received, the Commissioners will not support their budget request
and the whole project will be on hold.
The goal is to have the third phase and part of the fourth phase complete in 2024 with finishing
the fourth phase in early 2025. With the groundwork in place, the final phases will aim to be completed
to open the new RV Park for the 2026 Fair. Additional needs in the future for the park will include
building a new restroom and shower facility to service all camping and event visitors.
