I had a teleconference with Mr. Cook yesterday. This project
got underway more than two years ago and understandably costs have increased considerably. I agreed with
Mr. Cook that I would increase my spend to 57k from my original agreed upon 40k.
As of last week, he informed me that I need to spend an additional 14K+taxes to purchase an "optional"
abutment package. Paying for the abutment was not part of the discussion two years ago. I addressed this in
the e-mail below which he may or may not have shared with you.
With good faith in the process, I'm looking for a way forward.
Below is the e-mail I sent nearly two years ago. It clearly stated my willingness to spend 40K on the project
and the rationale behind that spend. I've been under the impression for the last two years that you
authorized this proposal as PW proceeded to dig test pits, engaged a design firm, etc. Unfortunately the
county delayed the project and costs increased.
I understand Mr. Cook's desire to use a "SuperSill" as part of the abutment design. Basically, it's a
prefabricated steel form which is filled with cement and becomes part of the abutment itself but is not
required as part of the bridge itself. I confirmed with the TruNorth bridge sales representative that while it
speeds installation time, there are other common abutment designs used for these bridges.
I've attached a link to the optional SuperSill abutment package brochure as well as the separate brochure that
details bridge specifics.
I cannot justify this additional 14k+ expense above and beyond the increased amount for the bridge itself just
to save the county money on the agreed installation process.
I'm hoping that you'll consider my concerns and authorize Mr. Cook to work within the parameters of the
$57K I agreed to spend.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
t
