KITTITAS COUNTY
EC STUDY SESSION MINUTES
BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 108 - ELLENSBURG
Special Meeting
MONDAY 10:00 AM November 20, 2023
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright, Vice -Chairman Brett Wachsmith,
Commissioner Laura Osiadacz
Others: Kady Porterfield (Event Center Director), Carl Jensvold (Ellensburg Rodeo Board
President)
1. Call to Order: 10:00AM by Vice -Chairman Wachsmith.
2. Citizen Comments (1 min. time limit): None
3. Grandstands Project Updates: Kady opened a discussion about what work is currently
being done on the Rodeo Grandstands project. Carl shared where the Rodeo Board stands
with motivation to help see the project completed and keeping this on the forefront as a
priority. Vice -Chairman Wachsmith shared some of financing options he has been
researching on how to effectively utilize our joint funds between the County, the Rodeo, and
the City. Carl would like to meet to work with Kady and Patti Stacey (County Project
Manager) on talking to ALSC Architects about revising the design, if it's possible, based on
the committed funding at hand, and if or how we may have to phase to start using some of
the project funds. Kady suggested she look into updating the project scope on some of the
state grant funding to work with ALSC on design updates. Chairman Wright said he would
also work with Kady on looking into any possible options for funding through CERB
(Community Economic Revitalization Board). Kady continued that currently all Federal
funding avenues and resources that have been shared with her are not a fit for this project or
our entity at this time.
4. Fire System Project Updates and Budget Amendment: Kady shared that the insurance
will not cover the repairs to the fire suppression system other than what was damaged
because of the freeze. Therefore, the restoration of the flooded rooms will be fully covered,
but the repairs to get the majority of the fire suppression system back up and running and to
ensure it won't fail again due to the age of the system, will not be covered by insurance.
Kady continued that she is also working to get needed updates done to the Expo Hall systems
as quickly as possible, but not sure if it will affect this year's budget or next year's budget.
2023-11-20 MINUTES
