Kim Schrier, Representative
The Hon. Marilyn Strickland, Representative
United States Capitol
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Honorable Members of the Washington State Congressional Delegation:
As Congress begins to negotiate the Federal Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act,
we, the undersigned salmon recovery partners, write to express our strong support of the $3.8
million for Washington's Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups (RFEGs) as included
under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Service's Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program in the
Senate's S. 2605 - Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies
Appropriations Act, 2024. We appreciate your continued support of salmon recovery in
Washington State and appreciate your consideration of our request.
We represent state agencies, legislators, local governments, tribes, non-profit organizations,
contractors, landowners, and other partners that work with the Regional Fisheries Enhancement
Groups (RFEGs) to recover salmon populations across the state. RFEGs sponsor some of the
largest, most complex habitat restoration projects and bring us all together to get the work
done. This funding is critical in allowing the RFEGs to complete the important work of
recovering federally listed salmon species and for educating the public about how they can help
ensure a bright future for salmon in Washington State.
Please join us in supporting RFEGs and help them secure the $3.8 million necessary to complete,
and expand, this important work ensuring Washington State can honor tribal treaties and keep
pace with the goals and timelines prescribed in state and federal salmon recovery plans.
Sincerely,
