Certain models also allorv <br />natural ventilation. <br />3,0 DESCRIPTION <br />3,1 General: <br />When subjected to rising waler, lhe Smart Venl@ FVs <br />internal floats are activated, then pivot open to allow flow in <br />either direction to equalize waler level and hydrostatic <br />pressure from one side of the foundalion to the olher. The <br />FV pivoting door is normally held in ihe closed position by <br />a buoyant release device. When subjected to rising walei,the buoyant release device causes the unit to unlatch, <br />allowing lhe door to rotale out of the way and allow flow <br />The water level stabilizes, equalizing the laleral forces. <br />Each unit is fabricated from stainless sleel. Smarl Vent@Automatic Foundalion Flood Vents are available in <br />various models and sizes as described in Table .l . The <br />SmartVENToStacking Model #1540-Sl 1 and FtoodVENT@Slacking Modet #1940-521 units each conlain two <br />vertically arranged openings per unil. <br />3.2 Englneered Opening: <br />The FVs comply with the design principle noted in Seclion2.7.2.2 and Section 2.1 .3 ol ASCE/SE| 24_.t4 [$ection2.6.2.2 ot ASCE/SE| 24-05 (2OjZ, 2009, 2006 rbc and <br />IRC)J for a maximum rale of rise and fall of 5,0 feet per <br />hour (0.423 mm/s). ln order to comply with the engineeied <br />opening requirement of ASCE/SEI 24, Smart Vent FVs <br />musl be installed in accordance with Section 4.0. <br />3.3 Ventllation: <br />The SmartVENT6 Model #1S40-S10 and SmartVENTo <br />Overhead Door Model #1540-514 bolh have screen coverswith. lLinch-by-1&-inch (6.35 by 6.35 mm) openings, <br />yielding 51 square inches (32 903 mm2y of net free area tosupply natural ventilation. The SmartVENTo Stacking <br />Model #1540-511 consists of two Model #.t540_510 uniti <br />il - qlq assembty, and provides 102 square inches(65 806 mm2) of nel free area to supply natuial ventilation. <br />Other FVs recognized in this report do not offer nalural <br />ventilation" <br />3.,0 Flood Vent Seallng Klt: <br />The Flood V,ent Seating Kit Modet #15/;0-526 is used with <br />SmarlVENTo Model #1540-520. lt is a Homasote 440 <br />Sound Baniero (ESR-1374) insert with 2t - 2_inch-by_2_ <br />inch (51 mm x 51 mm) squares cut in il. See Figure 4 <br />4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION <br />4.1 SmartVENTo and FloodVENTo: <br />SmartVENT@ and FloodVENlo are designed to beinstalled into walls or overhead doors of existing or new <br />construction from the exterior side. lnstallation of thevents must be in accordance wilh lhe manufacturer,s <br />instruclions, the applicable code and this reporl. <br />lnstallation clips allow mounting in masonry and concrete <br />vralls of any thickness. ln order to coinply with the <br />engineered opening design principle noted in Sec,tion <br />2.7.2.2 and 2.7,3 of ASCE/SE| 24-,t4 [Secrion 2.6.2,2 olASCE/SEI 2+05 (2012, 2009, 2006 rsG and tRC)1, the <br />Smart Venl@ FVs must be installed as follows: <br />r Wilh a minimum of two openings on differenl sides of <br />each enclosed area. <br />r Wift a minimum of one FV for every 200 square <br />k) ailtJiililnJ!.r' ilth.1' noiltr in thit rcpott, .tt .l h, onl,pntln t ttti.std l),llx, reltott. <br />Copyrighl € 2021 ICC Evaluelion SeNico, LLC.
