03 WED-7 dctrlq
WSDOT is replacing the existing bridge deck on the 1-90 Vantage Bridge to maintain structural integrity, continued
safe operation of the highway and extend the life of the bridge. WSDOT will combined two projects into one for
efficiency in time and cost.
26
4 To Ellensburg
s
c
Why is WSUrT doing this?
The bridge deck, columns and struts are showing signs of significant deterioration. Since 2019, WSDOT has discovered
dozens of through -deck holes requiring emergency repairs.and lane closures. In 2020, three holes were discovered in
one day. Approximately $518,000 has been spent over the last several years to repair the bridge deck, many of which
were emergency repairs resulting in multiple travel impacts and a total of 85 days of lane closures. The Vantage Bridge
was built in 1962 and the last time the, bridge received a major overhaul was in 1982.
What do travelers need to know?
During construction, the bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced.
Travelers will experience long delays and congestion during construction. Contractor crews will open up traffic to
four lanes for the following weekends: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Watershed (early August), and Labor Day
Project timeline
Construction start: Fall 2023
Construction completion: Fall 2027
Title Vi Statement to Public: WSDOT ensures full compliance with Title VI of the civil Rights Act of 1964 by prohibiting discrimination
against any person on the basis of rare, color, national origin or sex in the provision of benefits and services resulting from it's federalllyy
assisted programs and activities.
