Cook <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Direct staff verify the number of cameras needed for countywide deployment and provide <br />an inventory of possible revenue sources offsetting the cost of camera deployments. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />* Pano Al provides hardware and software supporting remote fire detection. <br />The service is subscription based. <br />* The subscription is "turnkey". <br />* The Washington Department of Natural Resources (WADNR) is deploying use of <br />Pano AI in key locations (21) statewide. <br />• Oregon began with three cameras three years ago and now supports 31. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Pano AI utilizes remote camera deployments coupled with artificial intelligence and <br />machine learning to create a fire detection network. Once a 100-meter smoke plume is <br />detected, humans evaluate the detection and determine validity resulting in a notice to fire <br />suppression personnel. Email and text message provide a bearing or triangulated <br />coordinates. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />WADNR is deploying Pano Al at key locations in the state. One site is in the Naneum. <br />One site is in Ellensburg. No sites are forecast for Cle Elum Ridge or the Teanaway. It <br />is likely that Suncadia will provide a site for deployment (we permitted a cellular tower <br />several years back in Tumble Creek) and we may be able to find another partner <br />proximate to Cle Elum Ridge and/or Salmon La Sac. <br />The service negotiates hosting fees, provides camera installation and deployment along <br />with maintenance service. Cameras and associated software come with the subscription <br />fee of $50,000 per camera per year. In consideration of providing fire suppression <br />services to lands owned by the Nature Conservancy, it might make sense to approach <br />TNC to define their level of participation in camera deployment. Our federal partners <br />might also be able to support a camera deployment in Salmon La Sac.
