Staff Report bv: <br />Brian Carlson <br />Budget and Finance Director <br />Topic: <br />Presentation of Prelimina ry 2024 <br />Budget <br />Meetins <br />BOCC Regular Meeting <br />Tuesday, September sth, 2023 <br />Summary: <br />o Finance Director will provide preliminary figures from compiled countywide budgets <br />e Materials are not completed as of meeting publication deadline; will be distributed at meeting <br />Backsround: <br />o Deadline is per RCW 36.40.060; "on or before the first Tuesdoy in Septembe/' <br />Analvsis: <br />o Prelim figures are a starting point for Finance Director to begin Fund- and Department-level analysis <br />o Finance staff will begin to prepare materials and summary "dashboards" for October BOCC meetings <br />r Preparation will entail discussion with department heads to clarify resource requests and other <br />estimates, and wherever possible to tie requests to service-level objectives and programming <br />Conclusion / Next Steps: <br />r Finance Director will review prelim budgets and begin dialogue with Department Directors and Elected <br />Officials and their designees <br />o Director will provide update at next Finance Study Session, Thursday, September 21st <br />r BOCC budget meetings begin on October 2, and run through mid-November
