Plan Framework <br />Long-range Community Goals Benefiting Tourism <br />ln cleveloping the tcurisrn plan, the strategic plan committee and key stakeholders discussed several long-range gaals that go beyond.the scope of tf,is plan. These r*r"r*"niations are important for taurisrn inthe long*term and benefit the corrrmunity'overall. some orttre i"li;;ing are addressed in other city plansor are within the scope of other departments. <br />1) Downtown development. Elle-nsburg's downtown is a major visitor attraction as weil as being acommunity gathering place. Efforts should continue.to ;;;;r;;;; the development of businesses andamenities that serve both visitors and cornrnunity. The ne* piaiu rill be a great improvement fordowntown' continue to strive to create a downtown il'rri ir r.rt-iu. every day, not just during events.2) Transportation' Ellensburg is car-depencient and this has implications for attracting travelers whodon't own cars or those triveling greatei aistances. Nearby destinations such as yakima andwenatchee have air and train a.curt. once in Ellensburg, i;r*l;; have access to uber, Lyft and taxiservice. However, the service is not always available o, i"ti.nt".- <br />- <br />a) continue work to make private and eventually commercialflights possible into Bowers FieldAirport. <br />b) Explore bike or scooter sha ring opportunities. <br />c) Expand Central Transit to visitor destinations. <br />3) lnterchange beautificatio.n and signage. Ellensburg's "front door,, off l-90 reflects little of the charmand character to be found in the d-owitown. ln add-ition io *uviinaing signage, it would be beneficialto look at the "curb appeal" of these entrances and imprement a plan to make improvements, <br />4l Develeprrrent of a canference centef.
