KITTITAS COUNTY
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES — BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS
2023 STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: August 14,2023
TOPIC: CDS Planning Commission Standing Subcommittee
ACTION REQUESTED: Support Proposed Standing Subcommittee
LEAD STAFF:
Jamey Ayling, Planning Manager
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff proposes to add the proposed standing subcommittee recommendation to the next
agenda of the Planning Commission for the full commission to consider.
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
The Planning Commission Chairman has put forth a proposal to the Commission to formulate
a standing subcommittee identified as the Strategic Planning Committee. The Commission
Chair is hopeful that the standing subcommittee will facilitate bilateral communication
between the Commission and various County Departments concerned with regulating land
use activities. It is also intended as a platform to provide input.
BACKGROUND:
In the Planning Commission By -Laws Section 16 authorizes the commission having full
power, from time to time, to create standing or temporary subcommittees of one or more
members and the committee shall be charged with such duties of examination, investigation,
and inquiry relative to some one or more subjects of interest to the commission.
DISCUSSION:
It appears that the Planning Commission is responding well to staff s challenge for increased
interaction between the commission and staff. We propose placing the subcommittee
farmulationon the next Planning g Commission agenda and allowing the commission to take
formal action formulating the committee. Staff will prepare a committee work program in
the next several weeks, present and adjust according to committee wishes, and return to the
Board with an update on the work program at our September 28, 2032, study session.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
None. Administrative work by planning staff is programmed in the 2023 Planning budget.
ATTACHMENTS:
Standing Subcommittee Proposal
Pagel of 2
Community Development Services "Work Session Staff Report", 2023
