KITTITAS COUNTY
EC STUDY SESSION MINUTES
BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 108 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting
MONDAY 1 10:00 AM June 26 2023
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright, Commissioner Laura Osiadacz
Others: Kady Porterfield (Event Center Director), Lacie Dawson (Event Center Program
Manager)
1. Call to Order: 10:04am
2. Citizen Comments (1 min. time limit): None
3. Friends of Fair Ice Machine Donation Discussion: The Armory ice machine went out at
the end of 2022. Repairs were attempted throughout that time and in to 2023, but it was
found unrepairable. Since it was 2023 now, a new machine was not in the KVEC budget.
Friends of the Kittitas County Fairgrounds (FOF) would like to deduct the money from their
fair sponsorship payment for 2023 to purchase the ice machine. Commissioners agreed to
allow FOF to purchase the ice machine and deduct it from fair sponsorship revenue.
4. Patriot Night Under the Lights Updates: Preparation is going well with the concert fast
approaching. There will be a meet and greet with Runaway June prior to the concert at the
Gold Buckle. King Beverage is sponsoring and will be featuring the "Fold Of Honor"
program with special patriotic cans of Bud and Bud Light, honoring veterans. King Beverage
is allowing us to return any unopen cases of alcohol. Beat Box and vodka seltzers will be
added for the first time. Rodeo Queens and antique military vehicles will be coming to the
event again and be at the entrance to greet all concert goers. Fireworks will continue to be
discussed for future events. A drone show would be a possible substitution, but is more
expensive than a fireworks show in fair comparison of show style. Ticket sales normally pick
up the week prior to the event. Marketing is still ongoing with KXLE, KXDD, newspapers,
email blasts, and social media. There will be a television news interview airing on Thursday.
5. Office Hours of Operation on July 3, 2023: Porterfield would like to have office hours
from 10am-3pm due to the timing of the event. Both commissioners are in support.
6. Special Project Updates: Alder paving is complete as well as the cow pen projects. Top
Hands had a work party, they stained the Gold Buckle and logs. The VIP extension project
will take place in the fall. They are currently working to pour a slab for now (will be used as
2023-05-22 MINUTES
