KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AGENDA SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA SESSION DATE: April 4, 2023 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve the Resolution Authorizing the <br />Chair's signature on the Local Agency Federal Aid <br />Project Prospectus for Intersection Corridor Safety <br />Improvements, CRP 313-21. <br />BACKGROUND: Kittitas County was selected to receive $416,000.00, <br />through the Federal Highway Safety Improvement <br />Program (HSIP), to use for the Intersection Corridor <br />Safety Improvement Project. After initial award, Kittitas <br />County was approved for a funding increase to <br />$536,900.00. This project will install solar powered LED <br />embedded signs to enhance driver awareness of <br />intersections and promote safety, along with upgrading <br />outdated and obsolete signs currently in use. Example of <br />signs to be included are "Stop" and "Stop Ahead" signs. <br />Intersections have been selected based on criteria <br />including traffic volume and crash history. HSIP <br />funding is administered through the Washington State <br />Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Local <br />Programs Office and requires approval for each phase of <br />the project. <br />INTERACTION: <br />This Project Prospectus covers the Federal Funding for <br />the construction phase which is estimated at <br />$479,400.00. <br />Public Works is preparing to advertise for construction <br />of this work in May of 2023. Construction phase <br />reimbursement requires the Local Agency Federal Aid <br />Project Prospectus to be signed and approved by the <br />Chair of the BOCC prior to the start of construction. <br />Public Works. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution Authorizing the Chair's <br />signature on the Local Agency Federal Aid Project <br />Prospectus for the Intersection Corridor Safety <br />Improvements, CRP 313-21. <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) original to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution, Local Agency Federal Aid Project <br />Prospectus <br />LEAD STAFF: Josh Fredrickson, County Engineer <br />
