Cook <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Acknowledge the County Engineer's signature on a Monument Memorandum of <br />Understanding (MOU) with Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />Kittitas County implemented a monument recovery program years ago, ahead <br />DNR requirements. <br />Recently, DNR contacted Public Works (PW) requested a MOU be executed <br />regarding monument recovery. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Several years ago, DNR approached the Washington State County Engineer's <br />Association noticing of non-compliance of state monumentation requirements. Since the <br />formation of the County Surveyor position in PW, County Surveyor Turnbull has been <br />recovering monuments as an annual work program element. Kittitas County, along with <br />a handful of other counties in the state, have been setting monument recovery standards <br />for the rest of the state. DNR desires consistency in monumentation efforts statewide and <br />recently solicited Kittitas County for signing its MOU. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />County Engineer Fredrickson signed the requested DNR MOU recently, following <br />review and recommendation from County Surveyor Turnbull. This briefing informs the <br />Board of County Commissioners of PW's ongoing efforts leading the state in survey <br />monument preservation. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: <br />None.
