ReconunendationsWhife both the survey and the economic analysis point to opportunities and challenges forRoslyn, a key issue of Roslyn is that outside inffuences are having a dramatic impact onthe character of the community. While Roslyn has maintained a small-town feel, a closeconnection with the outdoors, independent busj-nesses, and a strong community spirit;seasonal- visitors to the community, housing costs, lack of locaf jobs, and large developmentsadjacent to Roslyn present challenges outside of the control- of local residents_with1.z.that said, the following recommendations are divided into two parts:Enhancing Economic OpportunitiesCuratinq the Visitor ExperienceEnhancingr Economic OpportunitiesThe following reconrmendations are designed to offer alternatives for Roslyn that areconsistent with local desires as welf as opportunities to grow the retail base, offerways for locals to pursue other income streams, enhance the retail/restaurant climate ofdowntown, and curate the unique character of the community.Pursue Emporium StyJ-e Retail: With the closure of the Harper Lumber Company, Roslynnow faces the largest retail- vacancy in downtown in recent history. A portion ofthis property could be repurposed into an emporium style retaif store that al-lowsfor l-ocal craftsmen, artisans, makers, and specialty food vendors to occupy spacewith a single point of sale. A successful model of the emporium style store can befound in Kittitas, Washington where a former hardware store has been converted. intofourteen spaces for independent retaifers.oConsider A Rotating Restaurant: Communitieschefs to populate restaurant spaces in townnow experimenting with allowingtemporary basis using existingareona23
