You have received this letter because vour propertv listed above is in an area that has flooded <br />several times. Here are some things you can do to reduce your flood risk: <br />Contact the Flood control Zone District lor informotion about the extent of pdst ltooding in your areo <br />Department staff can share more information about the causes of repetitive flooding within your area, <br />what the County is doing about it, and what would be an appropriate flood protection level. our staff <br />can visit your property to discuss flood protection alternatives. <br />Prepore lor flooding: <br />o Know how to shut off the electricity and gas to your house when a flood comes.o Make a list of emergency numbers and identify a safe place to go. <br />r Make a household inventory especiaily of basement contents.o Put insurance policies, valuable papers, medicine, etc., in a safe place.o collect and put cleaning supplies, camera, waterproof boots, etc., in a handy place.o Develop a disaster response plan. See www.ready.gov/plan for information about preparing <br />your home and family for a disaster. <br />Consider permanent flood protection meosures: <br />r Ma rk yo ur fuse or breaker box to show the circuits to the floodable areas. Turning off the power <br />to the basement before a flood can reduce property damage and save lives.o Consider elevating your house above flood levels. <br />o check your building for water entry points, such as basement windows, the basement stairwell, <br />doors, and dryer vents.
