Box 40917
Olympia, WA 98504-0917

RE: The Cle Elum Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service’s 2024-2025 NOVA grant
application proposals.

To Whom It May Concern:
Kittitas County supports the U.S. Forest Service’s grant proposal to assist with caring for our
public lands. Kittitas County is less than an hour away from the highly populated Puget Sound
area just off I-90. The proximity and access via the State’s most traveled east- west interstate
makes Kittitas County a hotspot for recreation.
If the U. S. Forest Service is awarded these funds it will help ensure there are crews on the
ground to maintain facilities, pick up garbage, care for trails, and provide an opportunity for
thousands of visitors the ability to have in person contact with knowledgeable staff.
Although recreation has been booming in Kittitas County for decades, since the COVID-19
pandemic there has been a new wave of recreationalist. As with any new activity there is a
learning curve, and education is essential. It is even more important now to have the necessary
staff to make sure our public lands are a safe and sanitary place for all to enjoy.

Respectfully,

__________________ ____________________ ______________________
Laura Osiadacz, Chair Cory Wright, Vice Chair Brett Wachsmith, Commissioner
Kittitas County District 2 Kittitas County District 1 Kittitas County District 3

Kittitas County, Washington
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
District One
Cory Wright
District Two
Laura Osiadacz
District Three
Brett Wachsmith
