KITTITAS COUNTY
EC STUDY SESSION MINUTES
BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 108 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting
MONDAY 10:00 AM August 22 2022
Board members present: Laura Osiadacz, Chair; Brett Wachsmith, Vice -Chair; Cory Wright,
Commissioner.
Others: Kady Porterfield, Event Center Director
1. Call to Order at 10:05am
2. Citizen Comments (1 min. time limit) — none
3. General Event and Rental Updates — Bookings are slow this month since we are in full
force for Fair and Rodeo production. The last huge event we had was the Fire Camp, which
we did very well on financially. Once Fair wraps up, we will be awaiting Cowboy Cross,
which is one weekend earlier this year, and a brand-new event with a professional
lumberjack competition.
4. Approve a Resolution to Authorize KVEC Facility Rental Fee Waivers for the VFW —
This event holds significant benefit to the veterans of our community and RCW 73.04.070
authorizes counties to furnish meeting falls free of charged to veteran organizations. Their
event will take place on September 24, 2022. Commissioner Wright moved to approve
Resolution 2022-164 and Commissioner Wachsmith seconded the motion. Motion passed.
5. Self -Promoted Events Business — The Kittitas County Fair is almost here, and Kady
reported everyone is getting excited. The grounds are looking fabulous, and advance ticket
and carnival sales are way up from last year. Temporary labor is short again this year and
hiring has been difficult. Contract work is being looked at as a possibility to make up for it
and not leave operations too short-handed.
6. Special Projects — no updates currently. All on hold until after the Fair and Rodeo.
7. Other Business — Kady gave a quick briefing that the surveying of the fairgrounds along
Craig's Hill behind the barns had been completed and that we would be meeting with the
City of Ellensburg to discuss possible boundary line adjustments to that area and start
working towards a solution for stabilizing Craig's Hill.
Meeting concluded at 10:22pm.
2022-08-22 MINUTES
