<br /> <br /> <br />Community Wildfire Protection Plan 58 September 2018 <br />7 Putting the Community Wildfire Protection Plan into Action <br />The effective implementation of this plan is based on three key elements: stakeholder engagement, <br />strategic management, and monitoring and evaluation. <br />7.1 Stakeholder Engagement <br />Each stakeholder in the CWPP shares a role, whether it be agency-, landowner-, or nongovernmental <br />organization-affiliated. The success of this CWPP requires the participation of all stakeholders to <br />engage in understanding of their role and taking appropriate actions. <br />7.1.1 Residents and Homeowners <br />Kittitas County Fire Districts cannot always protect everyone from wildfire, especially if homeowners <br />haven’t taken responsibility for ensuring firefighters can safely work in the area. By creating a <br />defensible space around individual homes and communities, reducing hazardous fuels in the <br />surrounding area, and ensuring that access routes will support fire apparatus, homeowners can <br />greatly increase the likelihood that their property will survive a wildland fire event. It is imperative <br />that homeowners work with their neighbors and communities to increase safety and reduce risk for <br />the greater protection of all. <br />7.1.2 Fire and Emergency Responders <br />There are a number of resource and <br />capability enhancements identified by <br />the fire and emergency responders in <br />Kittitas County that are related to <br />response and treatment of defensible <br />space, egress/ingress, capacity, <br />equipment, and planning efforts. <br />Implementation of response action <br />items will rely on either the isolated <br />efforts of the rural fire districts or a <br />concerted effort by Kittitas County or KFACC to achieve equitable enhancements across all districts. <br />Given historic trends, individual departments competing against neighboring departments for grant <br />monies and equipment will not achieve countywide equity. <br />7.1.3 Civic and Community Leaders <br />Wildfire mitigation efforts must be supported by a set of policies and regulations, where appropriate, <br />as well as guidelines at the county and community levels that maintain a solid foundation for safety <br />and consistency.
