<br /> <br /> <br />Community Wildfire Protection Plan 38 September 2018 <br />5 Taking the Cohesive Strategy Approach <br />While meeting the needs of local citizens and recognizing the significance wildfire can have to the <br />regional economy, the CWPP uses the best and most appropriate science from all partners as well as <br />local and regional knowledge about wildfire risks and fire behavior. The goals of the planning <br />process include integration with the National Fire Plan, HFRA, Disaster Mitigation Act, and Cohesive <br />Strategy, all of which promote local collaborative processes. Goals for restoring resilient landscapes, <br />improving wildland fire response, and creating fire adapted communities must work within the <br />bounds of local budgets, personnel, and equipment. The efforts and success of the Kittitas County <br />CWPP hinge on the funding and expertise of the local fire management districts and agencies as well <br />as the cooperative efforts of landowners to empower local communities and citizens to pursue and <br />implement projects that protect people, property, and infrastructure from wildland fire without <br />diminishing the private property rights of land/asset owners within Kittitas County. <br />5.1 Vision Statement <br />Our combined focus on <br />preparedness through <br />education by engagement, <br />training, planning, and <br />implementation will <br />provide for the protection <br />of people, structures, <br />infrastructure, livestock, <br />fish and wildlife priority <br />species and habitats, and <br />unique ecosystems that <br />contribute to our way of <br />life and the growth and <br />sustainability of the local <br />and regional economy. It is critical that this process supports the continuation and development of <br />strong partnerships; empowers each person to take responsibility for their role in their community to <br />prepare before, during, and after wildfire; and encourages new approaches to living with fire that <br />protect community values and reduce identified threats and costs. <br />The guiding principle: to engage Kittitas County residents, communities, businesses, non-profits, and <br />local, tribal, state, and federal governments to empower each other to prepare for wildfire through: <br />• Community engagement and development awareness of community roles in preparing for <br />wildfire
