As the State <br />NFIP coordinating agency, the Department of Ecology (ECY) regularly performs CAVs for <br />participating communities in the NFIP. <br />The primary purpose of the CAN is to provide an assessment of the community procedures for <br />administering and enforcing your local floodplain management program. A CAV is also <br />intended to provide the community with current information regarding the NFIP and to provide <br />an opportunity to discuss items of concern the community may have with the administration of <br />the local ordinance and floodplain management program. Continued enforcement of the <br />floodplain management ordinance allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) <br />to continue to make federally backed flood insurance available to property owners and ensures <br />the community remains eligible for flood disaster relief. <br />The CAV is comprised of the following elements: floodplain tour; review of the community's <br />floodplain management regulations; meeting with local officials; review of the local permitting <br />process; examination of the floodplain permit, variance, and subdivision files; and a summary of <br />the information gathered and issues identified. This is the fifth time a CAV has been conducted <br />in Kittitas County. FEMA performed a CAV in 1992, followed by ECY in 2000, 2006, and <br />2011. Currently there are 365 flood insurance policies within the County. There has been 205 <br />closed paid losses for flood damage valued at $2,329,588. A copy of the County's NFIP <br />
