APPENDIX II: PRELIMINARY AIRPORT ASSESSMENT <br />AIRPORT OVERVIEW <br />Most capital projects at general aviation airports are eligible for AIP funding. Common <br />projects are as follows: <br />electrical systems, and drainage systems. <br />Weather Observing Systems (AWOS), Precision Approach Path lndicators (PAPI), <br />and runway edge lights. <br />projects. <br />Airports must submit a flve-year airport capital improvement program (ACIP) to the FAA <br />annually. This submittal is used to define both the projects and the funding being sought, <br />along with the requested grant amounts. Annualdiscussions between the airport and FAA <br />staff are used to align airport requests with FAA priorities. AIP grant funds are distributed <br />in two ways, as described below. ln Washington, FAA grants require a 1oo/o match. This is <br />commonly met by a combination of local funds and a grant from the Washington AIP <br />Matching Grant program (discussed below). <br />allocated $150,000 in FAA grant funds. These funds can be aggregated for four years <br />before they expire. lt is possible to transfer these funds between airports operated by <br />the same agency or to transfer them to another agency that operates a NPIAS airport. <br />entitlement program, airports can compete for discretionary funds. The Airpoft will be <br />competing with grant requests from airports administered by the FAA's Seattle Airports <br />District Office.
