2022-4-11 MINUTES 2

RC Club License:
Director Grannan brought a revocable license for the RC club to the commissioners. In the past,
there have been issues with RC aircraft landing on the airfield. Recently one landed in the middle
of the airfield causing the RC club to be suspended until a revocable license could be written up.
The license contains the rules and regulations the club will need to follow in order to be
compliant, as well as steps in place to hold the club accountable. If such items are not met, the
license will be revoked, and the RC club will need to find another place to conduct business.
Director Grannan also brought up the need for an annual fee to use the land. This will be
discussed at the next AAC meeting.
Runway 11/29:
Director Grannan presented possible projects for RNY 11/29 based on conversations regarding
the upcoming recommendation of RNW 7/25. Currently, we are limited by the size of aircraft
that can currently land at our airport. To increase the number, the Airport could extend the
runway to 5100 feet as to allow more type 2 aircraft (Jets) to land. Another option would be to
extend runway 29 250 to 300 feet S.E. and reroute Bowers Rd. to accommodate for this. The
benefit of this would be to increase the number of aircraft available to land.
Another benefit of extending the runway would be the ability to put in an LPV approach for jets.
This will reduce the decision altitude for the jets when coming into land. Commissioner Wright
requested clarification on what an LPV approach is, and Director Grannan clarified that it is a
non-precision flight approach for aircraft to help land.
One of the factors for the LPV approach is figuring out if the airport currently has enough
aircraft landing at the airfield for funding. Another factor is funding, how would we be able to
fund this project? One option would be to push our BIL funding to include extending the runway
or we could attempt to fund this project ourselves.
The final point brought up by Director Grannan was that the final recommendation on runway
7/25 will be presented in June of this year
Strategic Plan:
The strategic plan has a developed mission and vision as well as four primary goals that the
Airport will stay consistent on trying to reach. The main focus is for Bowers Field-Kittitas
County Airport to become a leading GA airport in Central Washington.
