INTRO: GRAVEL RIDING? <br />•Typically described as riding a drop-bar bike on unpaved roads and trails <br />–Bikes can be used on and off road (unlike road or mtb bikes) –access to more terrain <br />–Tires tend to be wider than normal road bike <br />–Since routes can be remote, riders carry gear to be self-supported <br />•The fastest growing segment of recreational cycling for two main reasons <br />–Fewer interactions with motorized vehicles <br />–Greater access to unique and scenic areas <br />•Participants tend to be middle and upper income –willing to spend and travel to events <br />•Gravel event vibe <br />–Many new events springing up across the nation <br />–These are more relaxed and inclusive than classic road race events (ex Tour de France) <br />–Some participants want to compare themselves to others while just want to complete the <br />ride
