3,2 Designing Worksheets In the previous section, we looked at the visible components of a BehavePlus worksheet. In this section, we describe the selections that define a worksheet. All of the selections are stored with a saved worksheet or run, not just those that are visible. There is more to a worksheet than users might realize. In addition to the selection of modules and output variables, the worksheet and run files save your selections for graph size, gridline color, curve width, and so on. An overview is provided below, and more detail is given in fol- lowing sections. A worksheet is defined by selections, which are applied to the currently open worksheet and are saved with the worksheet or run. • Module selection (Configure > Module selection menu item or icon; Figure 1) • Input options (Options... button associated with the module; Appendix D) • Output variables (Options... button associated with the module; Appendix E) • Units and decimal selections (Configure > Units set selection and Configure > Custom units preferences; Appendix G) • Appearance of graphs, tables, and worksheets (Configure > Appearance prefer- ences; Appendix H) In addition to selections made for the current worksheet, several selections are preserved between sessions, specifically those available on the Configure > Appearance prefer- ences > Application tab. These selections include whether the Help and Picture panes are displayed in the pop-up windows and the worksheet border color and width. A change will be applied to all worksheets in the current session and selections are maintained be- tween sessions. Selections that are saved with a run are all of those included with the worksheet as well as selections that are offered with the Calculate command: display of table and/or graph results, selection of the table row variable and of the X-axis variable, and whether the Y-axis limits are specified. Technically, BehavePIus does not have default selections, which are settings automati- cally assigned by the program. We have, however, made selections and saved them in Wefault.bpw, BasicStart.bpw, and other worksheets available in the Example - Worksheets folder (Section 3.3.1). All of the available options as well as our selections are listed in Appendices D through H. These selections are what we mean when we use the word default in this paper. If these settings do not meet your needs, you can save your own selections with a worksheet that you can then define as your startup worksheet (Sections 3.3.2 and 3.3.3). BehavePlus defaults are not assigned by the program, but by users through selections in the current worksheet. We discuss below selections that are saved with a worksheet or run, again emphasizing that all selections are saved, not just those that appear on the current view. 3.2.1 Module Selection The Module Selection window is shown in Figure 1. The associated mathematical models for each BehavePlus module are given in Table 1. Indentation indicates that the models can be linked, with output from one being used as input to the other.
