You can
use the MyFuelModels folder or create one that will meet your needs. The entry in the
Description line of the worksheet becomes the fuel model description. You can change it
to a meaningful name for the fuel model before it is saved. BehavePlus fuel model files
have the extension .bpf.
Fuel models that have been saved for BehavePlus can also be exported in the format re-
quired by the FARSITE, FlamMap, and Nexus systems using File > Save as a fuel model
> FARSITE format. These files will have the extension .fmd. The Help window gives
guidance on naming conventions. You will probably want to save fuel models formatted
for FARSITE somewhere other than in the BehavePlus folder to avoid confusion.
10.2 Selecting a Fuel Model
Clicking on the Guide button next to Fuel Model on the worksheet will bring up the fuel
model Input Guide window. The 53 standard fuel models are always available (the origi-
nal 13 in Anderson 1982 and 40 more in Scott and Burgan 2005). Custom fuel models
will appear at the end of the list during the session in which they are created. In future
sessions, the custom fuel model folder must be attached using Configure > Fuel model
set selection. Individual fuel model files are attached by selecting the folder in which
they reside. It is not possible to select and attach individual fuel model files; the entire
USDA Forest Service Gen. Tech. Rep. RMRS-GTR-248. 2010 73
