8.6 Export to Spreadsheet <br />You may want to perform additional analysis of results from BehavePlus, such as making <br />comparisons to a new fire model under development. Or you might wish to plot results in <br />a way not offered by BehavePlus, such as plotting two variables on the same graph. The <br />HTML file can be opened with spreadsheet software where additional calculations and <br />formatting can be done. In this description, we use Microsoft' Excel 2007 as the example <br />spreadsheet program. When you save a file using File > Export results, you will get a <br />reminder message that you can open the HTML file with Excel. <br />To graph results, BehavePlus calculates multiple points for each graph using the maxi- <br />mum and minimum values that you entered but not the intermediate values. The num- <br />ber of calculations for each curve is determined by the appearance option (likely 100 <br />points). However, the export function only applies to the values in the tables produced <br />by BehavePlus, so there must be enough data in the table to create an accurate graph in a <br />spreadsheet. You might not need 100 values. For example, if you are interested in flame <br />length values associated with wind speeds from 0 mi/h to 20 mi/h, BehavePlus will create <br />a plot based on those two values. For export, you must input intermediate values between <br />0 and 20 mi/h (for example, from 0 to 20 in steps of 1) to produce a table suitable for <br />graphing in a different program. <br />To open the HTML file as a spreadsheet, locate the file on your computer, right -click on <br />the file name, and select Open With> Choose Program.... Select Microsoft® Excel (or <br />any desired program that that can interpret HTML files). Once the values are loaded into <br />a spreadsheet, you can work with them as you see fit. It is essential that you save the doc- <br />ument in spreadsheet format (File > Save As...) and change the file extension from .html <br />to the appropriate extension (.xlsx in our example), so that any changes will be properly <br />saved. It is best to save the file as a spreadsheet as soon as the file is opened and before <br />any additional work is done. <br />Once the file has been saved as a spreadsheet, a good approach is to leave the imported <br />page as it is and copy the relevant output to a new worksheet. You can then work on this <br />new worksheet to add calculations and/or create graphs. <br />In BehavePlus, only one variable can be plotted on a graph. A spreadsheet can be used <br />to plot two variables on a graph. The BehavePlus run in Figure 53 examines the effect of <br />changing the 1-h fuel load in fuel model 2 to values higher and lower than its value of 2 <br />tons/ac. A range of values from 0.5 to 5.0 ton/ac are used to calculate ROS and FL. For <br />this example, we are not concerned with round off, so we developed a worksheet using <br />the SURFACE input option Fuel is entered as Fuel parameters rather than opening the <br />FuelModeling.bpw worksheet from the ExampleWorksheets folder (Sections 5.2 and <br />10.1). <br />64 USDA Forest Service Gen.
