7.4 Diagrams
In addition to tables and graphs, BehavePlus wiII create diagrams for four variables: fire
characteristics chart in SURFACE, wind/slope/fire spread directions in SURFACE, point
source fire shape in SIZE, and the shape of a fire after suppression action (successful or
not) in CONTAIN. Diagrams are generated by selecting them from the list of output vari-
ables for the module. Diagrams can aid model understanding and interpretation.
Diagrams are produced for values in the output tables. Therefore, if only graph output is
selected, diagrams will not be produced. All of the diagrams for a single run use the same
scale. It is generally not good practice to request too many diagrams in a single run. Fig-
ure 50 shows table output and four associated diagrams. In this case, fire shape diagram
was chosen as an output from the SIZE module.
E *M behawPW 5.0 1 Fri, May 07, 2010 at 13.5931
Inputs: SURFACE, SIZE
Desceptian a Pample Fire Shape Diagram
Fuel/Vegetatiom SnrfaceT7udeastoty
Feel Model
Aid 110iutme
Dead Fuel Moistwe
Live Fuel UoMm
Weather
MidilmYie Wind Speed
Dire&m of Wind Vector (from tVslope)
Terratu
FIR
Slope Steepness
ElapsedIrkne
W1z
Page 1
%
6
V-
N 7S
nA
M12 8
4e8
a 190
%
a lic 50
h
all
Run Optiom Notes
Mommun rehAle effective wind speed 16& IS imposed [SURFACE].
Ca6Culations are only for the direction of v=im m spread [STWAC.E].
Firdme ic* fiat a lengh, and spread distance are always
for the direction of the spread calculations [SURFACE].
Wind and spread directions are degrees clockwise from upslope [SURFACE].
Di upon of the wend vector is the direction the wind is pushing the En [SURFACE].
Output Variables
Surface hate of Spread Ww&nu4 (Wh) [SURFACE]
Flame LftVh (k) [SURF'AC'E]
Direction ofMa>rinm Spread (from upsbga) (deg) [SURFACE]
Figure 50—Fire shape diagram was selected as an output variable for the SIZE module.
