KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

2022 AGENDA STAFF REPORT

AGENDA DATE: March 15, 2022

ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Resolution Authorizing the Chair’s
signature on Watershed Sciences and Engineering Task Order
No. 4 – Easton Reach Yakima River Hazard Analysis and
Mapping Investigation.

BACKGROUND: Recently, Public Works was noticed of a Flood Account
Assistance Program award from the Washington State
Department of Ecology. The grant allows us to study a portion
of the river in the Elk Heights area. Kittitas County Public
Works has an on-call professional hydraulic and hydrologic
contract with Watershed Sciences and Engineering (WSE). WSE
has successfully performed comparable work for Kittitas County
along the Yakima River and has worked with FEMA to update
mapping to reflect improved hydraulic and hydrologic
information.

Data collection and the technical assessment will be completed
by the end of 2022. This task order includes the preparation of a
map revision application to the Federal Emergency Management
Agency in 2023 so that regulatory maps will reflect best
available information.

This contract is funded by Department of Ecology Funding
Agreement No. SEAFCAAC-2123-KiCPWD-00016 and with
Flood Control Zone District levee funding.

INTERACTION: Public Works.

RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the Chair’s signature on Watershed Sciences and
Engineering Task Order No. 4 – Easton Reach Yakima River
Hazard Analysis and Mapping Investigation

HANDLING: Return one original to Public Works.

ATTACHMENTS: Resolution; Watershed Sciences and Engineering Task Order
No. 4 – Easton Reach Yakima River Hazard Analysis and
Mapping Investigation

LEAD STAFF: Arden Thomas, Water Resource Manager.
