19 <br /> <br />CHALLENGES <br />• Many children with developmental disabilities live in single parent families further limiting the <br />time and resources these families must seek and use existing services <br />• A greater number of Hispanic children and families are entering the service system and w ill <br />continue to do so, creating access and culturally appropriate practice challenges for the <br />service system. <br />• Most adult persons with cognitive disabilities in Kittitas County live with their families rather <br />than independently or in supported residential placements. As baby boomer parents age, <br />community responsibility for vulnerable adults will increase. <br />• People with developmental disabilities are often not involved in decisions that affect them <br />• It’s difficult and complicated to know what services are avail able and how to access them <br />• High rate of no-paid case load <br />• Interactions with law enforcement often have poor outcomes <br /> <br />
