Cook <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Support staff efforts messaging I-90 congestion impacts to rural County roads. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />• The 2021 American Public Works Association is meeting in Yakima <br />• Staff is teaming with Fehr and Peers presenting our I-90 bypass traffic experience <br />• Good opportunity logging public outreach for the STEER I-90 coalition <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The American Public Works Association meets annually providing a forum for local <br />government communication on emerging issues statewide. This year, the event is being <br />held in Yakima. Fehr and Peers, the consultant supporting Upper County Traffic <br />Committee efforts, is offering to team with staff presenting our experience. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Nicole Ogan will present on behalf of the County. A draft presentation outline is <br />attached (EXHIBIT 1) for Board review. Recent conversations with congressional staff <br />affirm the value of public outreach efforts supporting STEER I-90 efforts. Our <br />experience may be beneficial to other rural communities in Washington suffering from <br />wayfinding vehicle software and associated traffic impacts on rural road networks. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: <br />None anticipated. The Transportation/Environmental Planner is fully budgeted in our <br />Public Works Administration 2021 budget.
