Cook <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />• Authorize a third Road Maintenance Mechanic for the 2022 Road Fund Budget. <br />M. IMaai�IM,I lUT-lull i`a <br />• Completion of the new Upper County Road Maintenance Shop affords three new <br />state of the art equipment maintenance bays. <br />* A modern conference room'is also now available for County use. <br />• Public Works desires shifting dependency on outside vendors for more inhouse <br />mechanic repair and maintenance. <br />• A companion action shifting the Finance Manager's duty station, provides for <br />building occupancy throughout the day. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />• The new,maintenance shop affords an opportunity for more inhouse repair and <br />vehicle maintenance. <br />• Preservation demands are increasing in the equipment fleet. <br />The extra mechanic position is expected to reduce dependency on outside vendors <br />for repair and maintenance. <br />* Preservation activities are expected to increase. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The 2022 Public Work fees are projected to significantly offset the cost of the third <br />mechanic. <br />FISCAL IMPACTS: <br />An overall reduction in PW equipment maintenance fees is anticipated as a result of <br />hiring a third mechanic.
