Kittitas County Shoreline Master Program <br />a. Sponsored projects: Restoration and enhancement projects sponsored by <br />Kittitas County, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, Kittitas <br />Cou nty Conservation D istrict, Natu ral Resources Con servation Service, <br />United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington State Department of <br />Natural Resources, Yakama Nation, Yakima Basin Fish & Wildlife Recovery <br />Board, Yakima Tributary Access & Habitat Program, or other public agency <br />approved by the Administrator which are consistent with the County <br />comprehensive plan or other plans adopted by the Kittitas County Board of <br />Commissioners. <br />b. Vegetation planting/removal: Planting of native vegetation or removal of non- <br />native species for the enhancement of a shoreline buffer or designated critical <br />area; provided that such activities are limited to the area being enhanced. <br />6.17 Srgns <br />A. Policies <br />1. Signs should be located, designed, and maintained to be visually compatible with <br />local shoreline scenery as seen from both land and water, especially on shorelines <br />of statewide significance. <br />2. Sign location and design should not significantly impair shoreline views or public <br />access. <br />B. Requlations <br />1. Signs may be permitted above the OHWM in any shoreline environment, subject to <br />the locally adopted signage standards. <br />6.18 Transportation <br />A. Policies <br />1. New public or private transportation facilities should be located inland from the <br />water, out of the shoreline, unless: <br />a. Perpendicular water crossings are required for access to authorized uses <br />consistent with this Program; or <br />b. Facilities are primarily oriented to pedestrian and non-motorized use and <br />provide an opportunity for a substantial number of people to enjoy shoreline <br />areas, and are consistent with policies and regulations in Section 5.2 <br />Environmental protection and critical areas. <br />2. Transportation facilities should be located and designed to avoid public recreation <br />and access areas and significant natural, historic, archaeological or cultural sites. <br />3.
