Gaining clarity on what the EBDA's economic development product is, and our related strengths
and opportunities as well as obstacles and deficiencies will inform the work and shape the
future of this organization.
In the fall of 2017, the EBDA created a subcommittee to work on reviewing their mission, vision
and core principles. After several meetings of the subcommittee and the full board, the
following mission, vision, and core principles were approved by the board:
MISSION
The mission of the Ellensburg Business Development Authority (EBDA) is to strategically
recruit businesses, and connect them to resources so they can start, grow, and prosper.
VISION
Ellensburg is a vibrant and prosperous community that protects and values its history and
natural beauty.
CORE PRINCIPLES
1) Build and sustain mutually beneficial partnerships
2) Anticipate business opportunities and development
3) Enhance living standards and economic vitality in Ellensburg
4) Use creativity and innovation to accomplish our work
5) Be accountable, professional and transparent
What do businesses need?
In order to establish Ellensburg's competitive position, the board reviewed studies of what
factors are key to attracting business to communities in the Pacific Northwest. Many academic,
government, and business organizations have done this work and share conclusions about
elements critical to business recruitment, growth and development.
For example, the Washington State Department of Commerce has developed an initiative to
encourage businesses to locate in this state. The "Choose Washington" project asserts the
following as the top reason businesses choose to locate in Washington:
1. Innovation 5. Low cost energy
2. Industry/sector cluster 6. Diverse climate, landscapes
specializations 7. Resilient in times of adversity
3. Well educated workforce 8. Vibrant, unparalleled quality of life
4. Transportation network and 9. Global view, local action
broadband/internet
