Priority 2: Bridge Rail lmprovements - Code 3
Phase 1-Gounty Maintenance Districts A. F
r 19 bridges orstructures
Phase 2- County Maintenance Districts G . I
r 21 bridges orstructures
Phase 3- County Maintenance Districts J - L
. 20 bridges orstructures
Due to the large number of locations needing improvements, it would be cost prohibitive to provide improvements for
all locations in a single project, As a result, countywide bridge rail improvements will be executed in a series of
projects. Each phase priority will include a number of locations that are grouped by County Maintenance Districts (A-
L) and phased to be manageable for design and construction. The projects were first ranked based on the
inadequacy of the bridge rail and then by the location in which the greatest benefit would be achieved.
Although not specifically identified through the risk-based prioritization scoring, this project is a high priority for Kittitas
County due to the number of locations observed to be at high risk with the potential for high severity accidents
throughout the entire county road system. The potential accidents that this project would prevent are serious injury
and fatal accidents. The County has identified this widespread hazard and is taking a proactive, systemic approach to
reduce the potential for future accidents,
There have been 60 bridges rated as Code 3; this rating reflects bridges with timber railing or no railing at all. 0f all
the bridges identified with substandard rail, these bridges or structures have the highest vulnerability because they
provide no protection for an errant vehicle.
15
