From: Bob Carey
Subject: Action Needed by 11/3: Floodplains by Design sign -on letter!
Date: Monday, October 19, 2020 1:01:41 PM
Attachments: FbD letter to Goyemor for FY21-23 capital budget funding.pdf
Dear Floodplains by Design Network,
It's that time again: time to urge Governor Inslee and the Legislature to support the Department of
Ecology's $70 million capital budget request for Floodplains by Design.
Last biennium, Floodplains by Design received more funding than it ever has before: $50.4 million
was allocated to support integrated river management projects that are reducing flood risk to
homes, farms and businesses, restoring fish habitat and enhancing recreation opportunities. This is
thanks in large part to a groundswell of supporters like you!
This year may look a little different, but we know that the benefits Floodplains by Design brings to
communities across Washington are as crucial as they've ever been to the resilience of our river
systems, our economy and our communities. To once again demonstrate the breadth of support for
Floodplains by Design, we are asking elected officials, tribes, local governments, conservation
organizations, salmon recovery groups, flood control districts, farmers and other individuals and
groups to sign on to a letter in support of this bnenniUM!s S70 million capital budget request.
We will send the letter to Governor Inslee in early November, when he will be writing his budget.
We will send identical letters to capital budget writers in both Legislative chambers once session is
underway in January.
Please visit the sign -on form here to add your name and/or the name of a group or government
you represent by November 3rd. If you have any questions or trouble with the form, contact
brittany.gal IagherCrDtnc.ore_
Once you've signed on, please forward the letter to others you know who support Floodplains by
Design!
Thank you for all you do.
Bob Carey
Pronouns: he/him
Strategic Partnerships
Director
cargy@tnc.ora
(360)333-1898
The Nature Conservancy
410 N. 4th Street
Mount Vernon, WA 98273
