PRESS RELEASE
Date: October 12, 2020
Contact: Arden Thomas, Water Resources Program Coordinator, 509-962-7690
Kittitas County Progress Implementing Hazard Mitigation Activities
In 2019, Kittitas County adopted the 2019 Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard
Mitigation Plan, which addresses natural hazards such as floods, wildfire, avalanches,
drought, earthquakes, and landslides. The 2020 Progress Report for plan implementation is
available at Kittitas County's Hazard Mitigation Website
(htt s: www.co.kittitas.wa.us ublic-works hazard-miti ation- lan ).
The progress report reveals that many activities are being advanced through Kittitas County's
normal work plan and that significant progress was made, even considering disruptions,
uncertainty, and re -allocation of resources required due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The report
also highlights the importance of the Kittitas County Flood Control Zone District and partner
organizations and initiatives, such as the Kittitas County Conservation District, the Kittitas Fire
Adapted Communities Coalition and Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, in advancing the Hazard
Mitigation Plan.
As Kittitas County works to make our community more resilient to natural disasters, we also call
on our residents to prepare your home and family for a disaster. See www.ready.goviplan for
more information.
For more information, please contact the Kittitas County Works at 509-962-7690.
