KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY CONMUSSIONERS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: September 14, 2020
TOPIC: Upper County Shop Construction Change Orders Update
ACTION REQUESTED: Acknowledge Administrative Change Orders
LEAD STAFF:
Mark R. Cook
RECOMMENDATION:
Acknowledge Public Works settling of construction change orders for the Upper County
Shop.
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
0 The Board of County Commissioners previously deferred cumulative Change
Order (CO) approval (Upper County Shop) to the Director requiring monthly
updates as change orders are processed
• The following COs and associated cost are tabulated in the Financial section for
Board consideration
BACKGROUND:
Numerous small change orders are common during vertical construction projects
exceeding five million in total construction cost. Recognizing the value of rapid
processing of these change orders, the Director has secured settlement authority to the
Director's preapproval threshold for contracting ($50,000). In securing this authority, the
Director is committed to routinely providing and inventory of changes to the Board for
their consideration.
DISCUSSION:
Several changes have been implemented and several are pending. The following list of
changes have been approved: fiber network conduit, bollard covers, and 22 -gauge versus
24 -gauge metal roofing. Pending issues: changing the entry gate and adding soft start
motors to wash bay equipment.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Authorized changes total: $8,4110.35 (the added conduit and gauge metal costs plus the
credit on the bollards).
ATTACHMENTS:
None.
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY CONIIvIISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
