Candie Leader
From: Steve Lathrop <Steve@lwhsd.com>
Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2020 3:53 PM
To: Mark Cook
Cc: Candie Leader; Lindsey Ozbolt; Roger Beck (rbeck@suncadia.com); Kittleson, Gary
(g kittleson @su ncad i a.com)
Subject: RE: Highway 903
Thanks for letting Suncadia comment on your draft study session memorandum on the temporary closure of Baker
Road, the only objections to which are the portions casting Suncadia as opposing the closure and "forcing construction
traffic" through Evergreen Valley. Suncadia has consistently viewed the access to the resort via Baker Road as a problem
and has attempted to make all traffic, not just construction, use Swiftwater Drive and Suncadia Trail to the main
Suncadia entrance. As a public road coupled with the old easements, Suncadia has no authority to close or reroute it,
and there remains the positions of BOR/USES as to access to the old campground and the river. The gate at 903 is an
option but staffing is a problem for now due to cost.
To be clear: Suncadia has no objection to and supports the temporary closure of Baker Road to all traffic. Please note
that the development agreement with the county and Suncadia's covenants prohibit ATV type vehicles and all motorized
vehicles are prohibited in the Cie Elum River Corridor. Again, Suncadia may not be able to prevent some vehicular use of
the public road itself, but will object to any and all use which attempts to leave that limited area.
It would be appreciated if you could adjust your comments to better reflect Suncadia's position on this matter. As
always, thank you for your courtesies in allowing Suncadia's comments.
F. Neighbors are agitated with Suncadia construction traffic along Baker Road. I intend requesting road
closure at Baker attempting to deal with the construction traffic issue. I am attaching a draft brief for your
read. I welcome any insight you might have on the issue prior to finalizing and presenting to the Board of
County Commissioners. I have also discussed relocation of Winston Creek Road with the Forest Service and
they appear open to discussing the matter will all parties. Regards, Cook.
Mark R.
