KITTITAS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AGENDA DATE: ACTION REQUESTED: AGENDA STAFF REPORT June 16,2020 Request to Approve a Resolution to Award the Contract for the Fairview Road Widening and Coleman Creek Structures Project and authorize the Public Works Director to execute the same. BACKGROUND: In 2017, two short span bridges failed along a short section of Fairview Road. Replacement designs were substantially completed in 2018 and in 2019 negotiations with the property owner failed to resolve the necessary settlement of right of way to allow the project to proceed to construction. INTERACTION: On April 21, 2020 (Resolution 2020-086) the Board agreed that the current economic climate dictates settlement of right of way allowing this improvement project to proceed to construction this season. On May 11, 2020 the Board of Kittitas County Commissioners approved a Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the Fairview Road Widening and Coleman Creek Structures Replacement. On June 1, 2020 bids were opened at Kittitas County Public Works. There were four bids, and the lowest qualified bid belonged to Advantage Dirt Contractors Inc. for $819,864.10. The Engineer's estimate for the project is $961,065.00. Right of way is now in possession of the County clearing the way for bridge construction. Public Works RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution to Award the Contract for the Fairview Road Widening and Coleman Creek Structures Project to Advantage Dirt in the amount of $819,864.10 and authorize the Public Works Director to execute the same.
