BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COUNTY OF KITTITAS <br />STATE OF WASHINGTON <br />ORDINANCE No. 2020 - <br />ESTABLISHMENT OF A 35 MPH SPEED ZONE AT COVE ROAD FROM ROBINSON <br />CANYON ROAD TO MANASTASH ROAD AND AMENDING SECTION 10.08.015 AND <br />10.08.030 OF THE KITTITAS COUNTY CODE <br />WHEREAS: Kittitas County manages roadway speed limits in County Code at Title 10; and <br />WHEREAS: Changing a speed limit (50 MPH to 35 MPH) on a County Roadway requires <br />amending Sections 10.08.015 and 10.08.030; and <br />WHEREAS: Kittitas County has determined that 35 miles per hour is an appropriate speed limit <br />for Cove Road from Thorp Highway to Manastash Road based on an engineering <br />recommendation requesting to lower the speed limit due to increasing vehicular <br />traffic; and <br />WHEREAS: Kittitas County has determined that 35 mile per hour speed limit signs would <br />improve safety at this location for vehicle traffic; and <br />WHEREAS: The Board of Kittitas County Commissioners did hold a public hearing on Tuesday, <br />June 2, 2020 to hear public testimony regarding the establishment of a 35 -speed <br />zone on Cove Road. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED That the Kittitas County Board of County <br />Commissioners, after due deliberation and in the best interest of the public, does hereby establish a <br />35 mph speed limit on Cove Road from Thorp Highway to Manastash Road; and authorizes the <br />placement of speed limit signs at appropriate locations along Cove Road and amending Kittitas <br />County Code Section 10.08.015 and 10.08.030 as indicated in Exhibit A. <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That this ordinance will become effective upon the installation of <br />the appropriate signs. <br />
