The Challenge
The challenge identified by the Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners is for the
Event Center to become less dependent upon the general fund and the County lodging
tax program.
The contradictory nature of this challenge is that this must be completed while reducing
costs, controlling expenses, not undertaking major improvement projects unless outside
funding is secured, and not changing the existing free and reduced -cost community use
of the facility.
Thus, the Commissioners are in favor of strategies that include:
i. Increased revenue generation through:
a. Focusing on high ROI events
b. Increased rental fees
c. Other strategies as outlined in master plan (i.e.: dedicated sales tax)
z. Cost saving measures and strategies
a. Savings in regular maintenance
b. Savings in special projects
c. Securing grant funding or other funding for special projects
3. Maintaining existing staffing levels
4. Delaying major projects unless in the case of an emergency
5. Increased professionalism, customer service, and cleanliness
6. Providing high quality facilities and grounds while limiting expenses
91 'age
