KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: February 11, 2019
ACTION REQUESTED: Request to Approve a Notice of Call for Sealed Bids
for the Procurement of a new Bridge for Big Boulder
Creek
BACKGROUND: Fish Lake Road is currently maintained on contract by
the United States Forest Service. During routine
bridge inspection this past year significant damage
was found at the near shore abutment. Public Works
immediately launched into a design effort targeting
bridge replacement in 2019.
Environmental permitting timelines and the recent
shut down of key government resource agencies
imperils project delivery in 2019. Procuring the
bridge ahead of awarding project construction is
essential to maintaining delivery viability in 2019.
Public Works is requesting to solicit for bridge
suppliers attempting to obtain delivery by early
summer 2019. Providing environmental permitting
does not experience any further delays, procuring the
bridge now appears to offer the best chance of 2019
project delivery.
Public Works will be replacing the damaged bridge
with Title 1 Funding and the sixteen (16) foot bridge
width is consistent with current road standards.
Public Works anticipates spending approximately
$140,000 in bridge procurement.
INTERACTION: Public Works
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the
Procurement of a new Bridge for Big Boulder Creek
HANDLING: Return one (1) Notice of Call for Sealed Bids to
Public Works
ATTACHMENTS: Notice of Call for Sealed Bids, 60% Plans, Bid
Proposal
LEAD STAFF: Mark Cook, Director
