KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />STUDY SESSION DATE: August 28th, 2017 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: To Award the Contract for the North Fork Teanaway Rd <br />Bridge #16203 Repair and Authorize the Public Works <br />Director to Execute the Same <br />BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works solicited bids for the <br />repair of the bridge rail on the Dickey Creek Bridge in the <br />Teanaway. <br />Bids were solicited in accordance with RCW 39.04.155 <br />Small Works Roster Contract Procedures. <br />Bids were received by e mail and standard mail on August <br />18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. <br />The engineers estimate reflected a total project cost of <br />$93,330. It is understood that construction costs are <br />increasing regionally due to the increase in demand by <br />approximately 20% against recent bid history. <br />Two (2) bids were received for the prescribed work. Public <br />Works recommends awarding the contract to Petersen <br />Brothers for the amount of $114,937.89 approximately <br />23% over the engineers estimate. <br />The second bidder, although low bidder, has been deemed <br />non-responsive as the bid was received and time stamped <br />by Public Works after the 10:00 am deadline. <br />Work will commence in September and is anticipated to be <br />completed late fall. <br />INTERACTION: Public Works <br />RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve a resolution awarding the Contract for the <br />North Fork Teanaway Rd Bridge #16203 Repair and <br />Authorize the Public Works Director to Execute the Same. <br />HANDLING: Return one (1) copy to Public Works <br />ATTACHMENTS: Resolution, Bid Tabulations <br />LEAD STAFF: Lucas Huck, County Engineer <br />
