KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: October 8, 2018
TOPIC: Adoption of the 2018-2037 Kittitas County Transportation Plan
ACTION REQUESTED: Direct Staff Prepare Enabling Documents for Plan
Adoption
LEAD STAFF:
Mark R. Cook
RECOMMENDATION:
Direct that staff prepare enabling documents supporting adoption of the "2018-2037
Kittitas County Transportation Plan".
BRIEFING SUMMARY:
• Prior to the departure of Commissioner Jewell, Public Works presented the final
draft 2018-2037 Transportation Plan
• Commissioner comments are now incorporated into the final plan
• The plan is now ready for adoption by the Board of County Commissioners
(BOCC)
BACKGROUND:
During 2017 and early months of 2018, Public Works worked towards updating the 2008
Twenty Year Transportation Plan. The plan was presented to the BOCC in late May
2018. Several items were identified for modification and those changes are now
incorporated into the final document with one exception.
DISCUSSION:
The updated plan embraces a streamlined policy section and incorporates a funding plan
supporting full implementation. At the Board's direction, priority is given to road
improvement projects that provide alternate escapes routes to fire prone dead-end
roadways. The funding plan incorporates a new road exiting the Teanaway toward
Salmon Le Sac. The cost is significant. One commissioner requested removal of the
project from the funding list. Staff has not removed the project and it remains in the plan
for adoption.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Numerous funding actions are required to implement projects and actions identified in the
plan.
ATTACHMENTS:
Exhibit 1: Requested changes made on May 31, 2018.
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
