MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN - Longitudinal and transverse changes in the elevation with respect to <br />the road or street are abrupt, and frequent cut and fill is needed to obtain acceptable horizontal <br />and vertical alignment. At least 75% of the existing terrain along the roadway corridor exceeds 8% <br />(but is no more than 10% maximum). <br />Terrain classification pertains to the general character of the specific roadway corridor. For example, roads <br />in mountainous areas that have all the characteristics of roads traversing flat or rolling terrain should be <br />classified as flat or rolling.
