KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: May 29"', 2018
ACTION REQUESTED: Adopt Monthly Equipment Rental Rates in Fund 501
BACKGROUND:
Currently, Public Works is utilizing hourly rental rates for
all equipment in Fund 501 (Equipment Rental and
Replacement). For the past several years, staff has
expressed concerns that the fund is over collecting rates
from the Road Fund (106). During the past several months,
Public Works Finance Manager and Public Works Director
have conducted an extensive evaluation of equipment rental
rates and determined a business change is warranted.
Moving to monthly rates adjusts charges to Fund 106.
Savings are forecasted at approximately $500,000 per year
going forward. Staff has confirmed with the Washington
State Military Department that we can charge current
FEMA rental rates (hourly) for all work conducted outside
of Fund 106. Additional savings are gained in the Finance
Department creating some staff capacity supporting Public
Works grants in other funds (Flood Control Zone District,
Airport and work within Design Construction).
INTERACTION:
Public Works
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt new monthly equipment rental rates for Fund 501.
HANDLING:
Return one original to Public Works
ATTACHMENTS:
Resolution with new rates
LEAD STAFF:
Mark R. Cook, Director
