KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
STUDY SESSION DATE: July 24, 2017
TOPIC: Lund Lane Road Improvement
ACTION REQUESTED: Informational — No Board Action Required
LEAD STAFF:
Marr R. Cook
RECOMMENDATION:
Informational — no Board of County Commissioner action required.
BREIFING SUMMARY:
• Big Creek PUD is required to bring Lund Lane to a public road standard
• The required new bridge crossing at Bureau of Reclamation irrigation canal will
be owned by the County
• Without geometric alterations, Lund Lane will likely go to 25 MPH following
improvement.
BACKGROUND:
Approval of the Big Creek PUD brings with it several offsite improvement requirements.
The existing Bureau of Reclamation (BoR) bridge must be replaced and Lund Lane be
improved to a public standard. The Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) is requiring
that the bridge be built to public standard and BoR is requiring the County to own and
operate the bridge over its irrigation canal. Public Works has submitted a canal crossing
permit and BoR is currently processing the permit application. Planning: for bridge
construction and road improvement are underway.
DISCUSSION:
Cooperation amongst easement owners has the potential to afford Lund Lane realignment
that is expected to benefit all easement owners, Preservation of irrigation controls and
traffic calming geometry are the likely outcome of cooperation. The developer (Deneen)
is expressing willingness to work with area residents. To that end, Public Works
proposes conducting public outreach seeking to engage easement owners on
improvement options for Lund Lane. Outreach is scheduled for the week of August 1,
2417.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Minimal costs associated with administrative expense supporting community outreach.
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
